José Luis Ruiz del Puerto is considered one of the strongest values on the contemporary Spanish guitar scene. His great contribution to the dissemination of new Spanish contemporary music has garnered him an international recognition. The prestigious magazine Classical Guitar wrote of him: “He is a true Spanish cultural ambassador”. He has fostered the composition of many works and collections for guitar. Some of the most distinguished, present-day composers, have dedicated their scores to him. He has performed in more than thirty premières and fi rst recordings of a large repertoire of Spanish music.
The collection of works Preludios para el Recuerdo (Preludes for Recollection), which he conducted and performed for the fi rst time on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Francisco Tárrega’s birth, is one of the most important collections of Spanish contemporary music for the guitar that have been edited today.
His brilliant career has led him to tour in several countries: Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, England, Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Rumania, Turkey, Russia and Morocco, performing at important festivals and concert halls, always very much applauded by the audience and praised by the specialised critics. He has recorded a CD with the label Columna Música devoted to the unrecorded music for the guitar by Miguel Asins Arbó. Recently, he has performed the absolute première of the concert for guitar and orchestra Somni (Dream), by the composer Vicente Roncero, and of the work Vitas et Veritate for orchestra, voice, narrator, guitar and electroacoustics by the composer Emilio Calandín, accompanied by the Orquesta de Valencia conducted by Yaron Traub.
He is a founding member and Artistic Director of the “Jornadas Internacionales de Guitarra de Valencia” (Valencia International Guitar Festival) and teaches at the conservatory “José Iturbi” in Valencia.
Ruiz del Puerto plays with the guitars Michael Gee, Alhambra-José Miguel Moreno and with strings Sonata from Royal Classics.
